Neighborly isn’t just something we say—it’s something we do

Last week's 'Barbecue on Beale' gave us more than great food—it gave us a glimpse of what’s possible....
I watched as people took their seats at The Long Table—some arriving with friends, many arriving alone. And within minutes, the atmosphere shifted. Conversations started. Introductions were made. Laughter traveled down the table.Strangers became neighbors.
It reminded us of something simple, but powerful: We don’t build community from a distance—we build it sitting side by side.
That’s the heart behind something we’re working toward in Downtown Memphis—a long table that brings residents, businesses, employees, and public safety together in one shared space.
Not for a meeting. Not for a program.
Just to sit down, share a meal, and connect.
Because when people know each other—even just a little—everything changes.
We look out for one another. We speak up. We show pride in where we live.
And over time, those small connections become something bigger—a downtown community that feels safer, stronger, and more connected for everyone.
YOU don’t have to wait for a big event to be part of that. If you're not already a member of Downtown Neighborhood Association, we'd love to welcome you as a new member today.
Sit a little longer. Start the conversation. Introduce yourself.
Because the long table isn’t just something we build—it’s something we live.
Being Neighborly — it’s always WORTH IT!
